Community Area Plans
The 2001 Market project will incorporate concepts developed in the community planning and design efforts which culminated in the Market Octavia Plan, the Better Neighborhoods Plan and the Upper Market Design Plan & Better Streets Plan. We participated in this process and have drawn from the experience and the feedback obtained from the community as a roadmap for the design of the project. We continue to meet with all interested community stakeholder groups to refine our project prior to Planning Commission hearing.
The Market Octavia Plan’s (MOP) framework encourages high density housing and supporting uses close to the transit services on Market Street. The MOP seeks to encourage mixed-use development of moderate scale concentrated near intensive transit services. The plan supports existing and new commerce by encouraging ground floor retail in commercial areas. It supports the creation of new housing units, providing a market for increased retail uses along these corridors.
The MOP outlines a bold new vision for the area that aims to provide housing in response to human needs, offers people choice for how they get around, builds a ‘whole’ neighborhood around a public realm of the highest quality and articulates a full range of services and amenities close to where people live and work.
